Privacy policy
Update (June 26, 2026): The marketing website at getcheckyourself.com now uses Google Analytics 4 to measure aggregate visitor traffic — for example, how many people view a page and how they arrive. This affects the website only. The CheckYourself macOS app is not affected and continues to collect nothing; its Apple privacy label remains "Data Not Collected." The short version: The CheckYourself app collects nothing — no telemetry, no analytics, no crash reporters, no third-party SDKs. Your account numbers, payee names, and cheque history live on your Mac and never leave it unless you choose to sync your data folder through a service you control. The marketing website (this site) uses privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate traffic, described below.
"Data Not Collected" is the privacy label Apple displays for the app on the App Store, and it remains accurate for the app. Below is the long version.
Who we are
CheckYourself is published by Jamlabs Data Science Inc., a Canadian corporation based in Toronto, Ontario. You can reach us at privacy@jamlabs.com for any privacy-related question.
What this policy covers
This policy describes how the CheckYourself macOS application and the marketing website at this domain handle information. The two are treated differently: the app collects nothing, while the website uses aggregate analytics (described below). This policy does not cover other Jamlabs products or services.
What the app does not collect
The CheckYourself macOS app does not collect, store, or transmit:
- Your name, email address, or contact information
- Your bank account numbers, routing/transit numbers, or institution numbers
- Names of payees or memos on the cheques you print
- Amounts, dates, or any data from your cheque register
- The contents of CSV files you import
- Device identifiers, advertising identifiers, or in-app behavioral analytics
- Crash reports or telemetry of any kind
The app runs offline and contains no analytics, no trackers, and no cookies. Analytics is limited to the marketing website, described below.
The data CheckYourself stores on your Mac
CheckYourself stores the data you enter — accounts, cheque registers, calibration offsets, layout preferences — in a local folder on your Mac. By default this folder is inside the app's sandboxed container at ~/Library/Containers/com.jamlabs.checkyourself. You can change the location to any folder you choose, including iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or a local backup volume.
This data is stored unencrypted at rest within your user account. If your Mac uses FileVault (which we recommend), it is encrypted with the rest of your home directory. We never receive a copy of this data.
Cloud sync
If you choose to point CheckYourself's data folder at a cloud-synced location (iCloud Drive, Dropbox, etc.), that service's privacy policy applies to data while it transits and is stored on their servers. Jamlabs has no relationship with those services and receives nothing from them.
The marketing website
This website is hosted on a standard web host. Like virtually all web servers, the host produces access logs that include your IP address, browser user agent, and the page you requested. These logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days for security and abuse-prevention purposes.
This website is delivered through Cloudflare, our content-delivery and security provider, which gives us aggregate, cookieless traffic analytics derived from its edge servers — counts such as requests, page views, and unique visitors by country, device, and referring source. The analytics itself is measured server-side and sets no analytics or tracking cookies in your browser. Separately, Cloudflare may set strictly-necessary cookies (for example __cf_bm, for security and bot mitigation) as part of delivering the site; its handling of your data is governed by Cloudflare's privacy policy.
This website also uses Google Analytics 4 (a service provided by Google) to understand aggregate traffic — such as which pages are viewed, approximate location (city or region; Google uses your IP address only momentarily to estimate location and does not store it), device and browser type, and how visitors arrive at the site (for example, from a search engine or an advertisement). We use this only to gauge interest and improve the site.
We do not run advertising, remarketing, or cross-site tracking, and we configure Google Analytics so that the data is not used for advertising personalization. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to recognize returning visits; the information generated is processed by Google. For how Google handles this data, see Google's privacy policy.
How to opt out: you can limit or block Google Analytics at any time using your browser's tracking-protection settings, a content blocker, or the official Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Depending on your location, we may also ask for your consent before analytics cookies are set. Opting out does not affect any feature of the site.
The CheckYourself macOS app contains none of this — no analytics, no trackers, no cookies. The only other data you actively send us is what you submit through our support portal, which is treated like any other support request we receive.
App Store information
The Mac App Store handles your purchase, subscription, and refund. Apple's privacy policy applies to that flow. Apple sends us anonymized aggregate sales and subscription totals through App Store Connect; we never see your name, email, or device identifier.
Children
CheckYourself is rated 4+ on the App Store because it contains no objectionable content, not because it is targeted at children. The product is intended for adults managing financial workflows. The app does not collect data from anyone; website analytics is aggregate and is not directed at children.
Your rights
The app holds no profile to access, correct, or delete. For the website, the analytics described above is aggregate; if you believe you've sent us personal information through the contact form and want it removed, email privacy@jamlabs.com and we'll delete that email thread within 30 days.
If you are a resident of the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada (PIPEDA / Quebec Law 25), California (CCPA/CPRA), or any other jurisdiction with data-protection rights, those rights apply to whatever data we do hold.
Changes to this policy
If we ever change this policy in a way that affects what data we collect, we will update the "Last updated" date above and announce the change inside the app and on this website at least 30 days before the change takes effect. We will not retroactively apply a less-protective policy to data collected under a previous version.
